From Artek's FIN/JPN Friendship Collaboration with Japanese designer Koichi Futatsumata, the Kiulu Bench celebrates the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan. Inspired by the public bathing cultures of both Finland and Japan, the Kiulu Bench typifies the refinement and ability to create new archetypes for which designer Koichi Futatsumata is renowned. 'Kiulu' means sauna bucket in Finnish and is traditionally used in public baths of both countries. Public baths, used for both a social nexus and for cleansing rituals are deeply embedded in the cultural landscapes of both countries and this connection is taken as the designer's starting point.

Constructed from a birch plywood seat and solid birch legs with form-pressed birch plywood baskets, the Kiulu Bench embraces the material's natural beauty and warmth, ensuring its durability. Featuring a seat with two buckets on either side, the Kiulu Bench is both a beautiful and practical piece. The cylinder-shaped buckets offer storage for items such as towels, cosmetics, magazines or toys. Its sculptural yet elegant design is stable and its aesthetic versatility allows it to complement any room of the house. The Kiulu Bench will make an impactful impression in your home.
