Massproduction's Icha Bar Stool is a contemporary update on the traditional bentwood chair and stool. Asian and Scandinavian furniture traditions meet to create a timeless aesthetic and modern silhouette. 'Icha' is named after the Japanese restaurant Icha Icha in Stockholm which the Icha Chair was originally designed for back in 2014. Now the Icha chair is re-launched with a new reinforced construction and with a Möbelfakta quality label.

The Icha Collection was introduced for the first time during Stockholm Design Week 2017 and was well received, picking up the Elle Decorations “Chair of the Year” award the following year. But Massproductions’ high-quality standards took the chair back to the drawing board. The goal was to strengthen the design to cope with the challenges of public environments and meet the requirements of “Möbelfakta”, the Swedish quality standard for furniture.

The Icha Stool is a complex wooden stool in solid, layer-glued and steam-bent wood, a combination that makes it dependent on three different production techniques. Another critical aspect is in the assembly of the parts into a durable stool. Massproductions’ furniture engineers have spent two years in product development, analysing each component and their various production techniques.

“Here at Massproductions we take our time, always exploring any opportunity to improve a product, even after it has been launched and received a warm welcome on the market. We found a supplier in northern Italy who makes the bent armrest (the most complicated part of the chair) in an outstanding way” says Magnus Elebäck, CEO of Massproductions.

    Chris Martin and Magnus Eleback

In 1999 two designers – one Swedish (Elebäck), one British (Martin) – started working together as consultants to the furniture industry. Ten years later Magnus Elebäck and Chris Martin decided to launch their own furniture company and Massproductions was born. Their debut product was the Tio chair, which earned rave reviews and well-respected clients. The commitment to quality, function and what designer-in-chief Chris Martin calls “obvious design” won the approval of the design industry, and Massproductions has built on the success to create an award-winning line of products.
