Designed by British designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, the Vitra Mariposa Sofa blends spacious comfort with understated elegance. Named "Mariposa," which means "butterfly" in Spanish, the sofa is as flexible as it is stylish.
The sofa comes with an ingenious adjustment mechanism that allows users to easily tilt the side and backrest elements. These can be individually adjusted from an upright position to an outward angle of about 30° and back again. Adjustments are smooth and quiet. The elements are designed to stay in place during regular use but can be adjusted to a more comfortable angle with intentional pressure.
The padding consists of three different types of foam, each offering its own level of firmness. The seat cushions are detachable and have a core of visco and polyurethane foam. The side and back panels feature a hinged frame padded with polyurethane foam and fibre, which is further enhanced by a loose cushion filled with feathers and polyurethane rods. This design allows users to sink in comfortably in both seated and reclined positions. Additionally, all covers are removable for easy cleaning.
The design also focuses on user interaction. The deep seat allows two users to sit at either end and face each other comfortably, perfect for conversation or reading. The Mariposa 3-seater offers excellent comfort for the entire family.
